Artist Biography
Lucas Buckwell is an interdisciplinary designer working across engineering, fashion, material experimentation, and the visual arts. He is pursuing a B.S. in Design Engineering and Applied Mathematics at Brown University and completed additional fashion design training at Central Saint Martins in London.
His work combines technical research with hands-on making, drawing from product development, garment construction, biomaterials, computation, and fabrication. Across apparel collections, experimental wearables, engineering systems, and exhibition projects, Lucas is interested in how scientific and creative methods can be used together to develop objects and experiences that are functional, expressive, and materially responsible.
His professional experience spans apparel product development, engineering design, consulting, and exhibition production, including work with TJX, Flexpenser, the New England Consulting Group, and the Brown Arts Institute. He also serves as Design Team Director for Fashion@Brown, where he leads programming in garment construction, collection development, and runway production.
